Gratitude in Suffering
“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” Proverbs 27:17
“ Let us never profane the sacred sacrifice of our King by seeking the benefits of Christ without the cross! Just as He gave up His life,so we are called to give up ours. It doesn’t matter what makes us happy or what makes us feel good. Yes, the way is narrow and rocky and causes us pain, but that’s the very road Jesus walked…and may it be our greatest privilege and joy to follow His steps.” Leslie Ludy
451 Grateful for a heavenly Father who loves us so much that He will chasten us…
452 Chastening that doesn’t seem joyous, but grievous…
“Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.” Hebrews 12:11
453 The peaceable fruit of righteousness
454 How much the Father loves us
455 That He calls us sons and daughters
456 The promises in the Word to give us hope
457 Following His steps
458 Through trials
459 Alone, but knowing He is with us
459 Narrow and rocky roads
460 The counsel of fellow Christians
461 The love and understanding of those who comfort us because they have been there
462 Stepping stones…
453 No matter where he takes us…
464 “Joy awaits us on the other side of suffering.” LL
“The strength of the vessel can be demonstrated only by the hurricane, and the power of the gospel can be fully shown only when the Christian is subjected to some fiery trial. If God would make manifest the fact that “He giveth songs in the night.” Job 35:10
~William Taylor
Recently the biblical term "peaceable fruit of righteousness" has been hovering in my heart. I like that you have it listed here and that it seems to influence more of your list! Such a rich well of meaning in one phrase… whatever the circumstances be growing this fruit in your life, may Christ's fellowship be abundant.
Such a powerful reminder of the beauty of His love for us…I know His chastening well, and it's a glorious place in my walk with Him to truly trust in His sovereign Hand. Thank you for such an encouraging and truthful list!
