I Am Like a Green Olive Tree

But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.” ~ Psalms 52:8

What does it mean to be a green olive tree? There is so much to learn from this scripture, but I am just going to briefly touch on what I learned today…

The high position held by the Olive tree in ancient as in modern days may be realized when it is remembered that Moses exempted from military service men who would work at its cultivation, and that in Scriptural and classical writings the oil is mentioned as a symbol of goodness and purity, and the tree as representing peace and happiness. ~ Botanical.com

Goodness and purity and peace and happiness…

This reminds me of the fruit of the Holy Spirit…”But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperence”  Galatians 5:22-23

The oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit and we as believers are anointed … “But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him” 1 John 2:27.

Jesus said, “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever – the Spirit of truth” John 14:16.

So, let us be like green olive trees…producing the fruit of the Holy Spirit…standing strong and firm and green and  alive…glorifying our heavenly Father as His children…exalting Jesus as our Savior and King…trusting in His mercy for ever and ever.

Knowing that as the olive is crushed to produce the oil…we can rejoice when we are crushed through trials and tribulations…knowing that they will produce more of Christ, more of the fruit of the Holy Spirit in us!  “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.” James 1: 2,3

And Psalms 52:9 goes on to say, “I will praise Thee for ever, because Thou hast done it: and I will wait on Thy name; for it is good before Thy saints.”

He has done this and we can proclaim… I am like a green olive tree in the house of God!
